Considering a home with Matt Deeb
Architecture?

Discover how our design philosophy blends artful simplicity, elegant restraint, and enduring materials to create homes that harmonize with their surroundings.

Why choose Matt Deeb Architecture?

Director Matt Deeb holds a Master’s in Architecture and is also a Certified Builder - an uncommon dual qualification that informs every stage of his work.

This convergence of knowledge ensures each project is conceived with an intimate understanding of how it will be built.

This rare continuity eliminates the typical disjunction between designer and builder, allowing the architecture to be realised with exactness and authenticity.

What defines Matt’s design philosophy?

At the heart of MDA’s philosophy lies refinement through restraint.

Each home is guided by principles of simplicity, proportion, and authenticity - responding to context, orientation, and climate.

Natural materials are favoured for their inherent honesty: timber that softens with time, stone that anchors a home to its site, concrete that captures the permanence of form.

The ambition is to create architecture that belongs.

Who leads the project?

Every project is led personally by Matt Deeb.

He takes on only a small number of commissions each year, allowing an exceptional level of involvement and continuity.

There are no handovers to junior designers - the same mind that conceives the project carries it through documentation, detailing, and site observation.

This ensures a singular vision and an unwavering standard of quality - a process defined by clarity, intimacy, and precision.

What services does MDA provide?

Matt Deeb Architecture offers a comprehensive, end-to-end architectural service - from feasibility and concept design through developed and detailed design, resource and building consents, interior architecture, project management, and construction oversight.

Working across Aotearoa, New Zealand, the practice collaborates with both local and international clients and builders.

Every project benefits from Matt’s dual lens as designer and builder - a synthesis that ensures design intent, material performance, and construction excellence remain inseparable.

How do we begin, and how are fees initially determined?

Before a proposal can be prepared, it’s essential to understand the project — the site, ambitions, and the level of design involvement required.

This begins with an initial design consultation, a 90-minute on-site meeting in which Matt studies the property and discusses your aspirations, lifestyle, and aesthetic direction. During the session, he shares early design insights and ideas while assessing scope and compatibility.
The consultation fee is $250, and as only a limited number are offered each year, bookings are typically made several weeks in advance.

For those wishing to experience MDA’s work firsthand, Matt also offers a private architectural tour of five completed Coromandel homes - a opportunity to see his design philosophy realised in built form.

How does Matt Deeb Architecture structure professional fees?

It is important that clients understand the costs of architectural services early in the relationship.

Once the scope and complexity are defined, Matt Deeb Architecture provides a detailed fee proposal outlining stages, services, and deliverables.

Fees are tailored to each commission and may be based on time charges, a fixed lump sum, a percentage of construction cost, or a combination thereof - always aligned with the project’s scale and the depth of involvement required.

This transparent approach ensures clarity and confidence from the outset.
